Ms. Fretwell entered private practice in 1999. She has focused her practice primarily on the defense of physicians, other healthcare providers, and healthcare institutions in actions alleging medical malpractice and related claims, such as those involving hospital administration and credentialing. She serves as litigation counsel to several Georgia hospitals. Ms. Fretwell also has considerable experience handling other types of professional negligence claims and products liability litigation. She has extensive trial experience, having tried more than 25 cases to verdict in her career, and she has handled numerous cases at the appellate level, as well. She handles cases pending throughout the state of Georgia.
In addition to her civil litigation work, Ms. Fretwell also has experience representing physicians in connection with administrative matters, including interviews and hearings conducted by the Georgia Medical Board and investigations conducted by Medicare, Medicaid, and related entities.
Ms. Fretwell was selected as a Barrister in the Lumpkin Inn of Court shortly after she entered private practice. She is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Atlanta Bar Association, and the Professional Liability Defense Federation. For six years, beginning in 2005, she has been honored by her peers in the legal community as a Rising Star in an annual survey conducted by Atlanta Magazine and Georgia SuperLawyers. Less than five percent of Georgia lawyers earn this recognition.
Ms. Fretwell has been invited to speak at several seminars designed for various groups of professionals, including physicians, health information managers, professional liability insurers, and her peers in the legal community. She is a member of the Junior Board of the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation, through which she routinely handles multiple pro bono matters annually. She also is an active supporter of Atlanta Legal Aid.
